Aim: To prepare and submit 100 gm Glycerated gelatin suppositories.
Requirements: Glycerin, Drug, Gelatin, Purified water, Beaker, Glass rod, Mould, etc.
Theory: A suppository is a solid dosage form that is inserted into the rectum (rectal suppository), vagina (vaginal suppository), or urethra (urethral suppository), where it dissolves or melts and exerts local or systemic effects. Suppositories are used to deliver both systemically and locally acting medications.
Formula:
Ingredients | Standard formula |
Glycerin | 70 gm |
Drug and purified water | 10 gm |
Gelatin | 20 gm |
Procedure:
- Dissolve the drug in purified water.
- Moisten the gelatin.
- Heat the glycerin and add gelatin and drug solution.
- Mix uniformly and pour the hot mixture into the suitable mold.
Category: Vaginal suppositories for local application of the antimicrobial agent.
Storage: Preserve in a well-closed container and keep in a cool place.
