Aim: To prepare and submit 100 ml Glycerin suppositories.
Requirements: Glycerin, Sodium stearate, Purified water, Beaker, Glass rod, etc.
Theory: A suppository is a solid dosage form that is inserted into the rectum (rectal suppository), vagina (vaginal suppository), or urethra (urethral suppository), where it dissolves or melts and exerts local or systemic effects. Suppositories are used to deliver both systemically and locally acting medications.
Formula:
Ingredients | Standard formula |
Glycerin | 91 gm |
Sodium stearate | 9 gm |
Purified water | 5 gm |
Procedure:
- Heat the weighed amount of glycerin in a suitable container to about 120°C.
- Dissolve sodium stearate in the heated glycerin with stirring.
- Add purified water and mix.
- Pour the hot mixture into the suitable suppository mold.
Category: Local application.
Storage: Preserve in a suitable container to protect from atmospheric moisture and temperature.
