Formulation Consideration: The appearance of visible scalp scales on hair is commonly called dandruff. The precise nature of this phenomenon has not been established. Fungus Malassezia furfur (previously known as Pityrosporumovale) is found naturally on the skin surface of healthy people and those with dandruff, it was later discovered that a scalp-specific fungus, Malassezia globose, is the responsible agent for dandruff. The counter, antidandruff shampoo includes anti-dandruff agents like zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, sulfur, etc.
Formulating many of these anti-dandruff agents into shampoo can present problems regarding stability, odor, and interaction with other raw materials.
Formula:

Procedure: Dissolve a small amount of salicylic acid at a time with gentle stirring, in the above clear liquid shampoo base.
Label: For external use only Content: Salicylic acid 0.5%. Storage: Store in a cool and dry place.
Packaging: Packed in a narrow mouth bottle with a dispenser or refillable plastic bottle.
Use: To remove the dust and unwanted build-up of sebum in the hair.
Directions: Use before bathing. Do not wet your hair. Apply Salicylic Acid Shampoo with the applicator directly to affected areas on the scalp. Leave for 5 minutes, gradually increasing the treatment time to 1 hour, or as directed by your doctor. After treatment, rinse thoroughly with water. Wash your hands after each use. Salicylic Acid Shampoo is for external use only.
Precautions: Avoid getting Salicylic Acid Shampoo in your eyes, nose, or mouth.
