Preparation of Simple Linctus

Aim: To prepare and submit Simple linctus. 

Requirements: Concentrated anise water, amaranth solution, citric acid monohydrate, chloroform spirit, syrup, etc. 

Theory: Linctuses are viscous, liquid, oral preparations that are usually prescribed for the relief of cough. Linctuses are used for the treatment of cough. 

Formula: 

IngredientsStandard formula
Concentrated anise water3 g
Amaranth solution1.5 ml
Citric acid monohydrate2.5 ml 
Chloroform spirit6 ml 
Syrup, up to100 ml

Procedure: 

  1. Weigh anise water and pour into a beaker. 
  2. Separately dissolve the citric acid monohydrate in chloroform spirit. 
  3. Mix these two solutions. 
  4. Add an amaranth solution. 
  5. Add a sufficient quantity of syrup to produce 100 ml. 

Category: Carminative and mild expectorant. 

Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. 

Labeling: TO BE SIPPED AND SWALLOWED SLOWLY WITHOUT ADDING WATER
