Assay of Tolbutamide

Molecular Formula: C₁₂H₁₈N₂O₃S 

Molecular Weight: 270.4 

Assay: Weigh accurately about 0.5 g and dissolve in a mixture of 40 mL of ethanol (95%) and 20 mL of water. Titrate with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide using phenolphthalein solution as an indicator.

Factor Calculation: 

1 Mole of NaOH ≅ 1 Mole of Tolbutamide 

1000 mL of 1M NaOH ≅ 270.4 g of C₁₂H₁₈N₂O₃S    

1 mL of 0.1M NaOH ≅ 0.02704g of C₁₂H₁₈N₂O₃S
