Aim: To prepare and submit 100 gm Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).
Requirements: Mortar and pestle, Sodium chloride, Sodium citrate, Potassium chloride, Dextrose monohydrate.
Theory: Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is a special combination of dry salt that is mixed with purified water. It can help to replace the fluid loss due to diarrhea. To prevent dehydration and electrolyte loss caused due to vomiting and diarrheal illness, ORS is widely recommended.
Formula:
Ingredients | Standard formula |
Sodium chloride | 10 g |
Dextrose | 74 g |
Potassium chloride | 6 g |
Sodium citrate | 10 g |
Procedure:
- Weigh the required amount of Sodium chloride, Potassium chloride, Sodium citrate, and Dextrose.
- Mix all the above ingredients in a mortar.
- Form a thick mixture in mortar.
- Sieve the mixture.
- Collect the formulation.
