Aim: To prepare 5 ml Paracetamol Elixir I.P.
Requirements: Paracetamol, Glycerol, propylene glycol, Sorbitol solution 70%, Mortar and pestle, Beaker.
Theory: Elixirs are clear, liquid, oral preparations of potent drugs (like antibiotics, antihistaminics, sedatives etc.) or unpalatable drugs. They are pleasantly flavoured and usually attractively coloured. Paracetamol Elixir contains the active ingredient paracetamol, which is an analgesic (relieves pain) and an antipyretic (lowers the temperature when in fever). It can also be used to relieve the symptoms of influenza, feverishness and feverish colds.

Propylene glycol | 0.5 ml |
Sorbitol solution 70% | 1.25 ml |
Ethanol | 0.5 ml |

Purified water | q.s. |
Procedure:
- Dissolve paracetamol in a mixture of alcohol, propylene glycol, glycerin, and sorbitol solution at 70%.
- Add a sufficient amount of purified water to produce the final volume of up to 5 ml.
Category: Antipyretic and analgesic.
Storage: Store in a place protected from sunlight.
