Assay of Diclofenac Sodium

Molecular Formula: C₁₄H₁₀Cl₂NNaO₂  

Material required: Diclofenac Na: 250 mg, glacial acetic acid: 30 mL, 0.1N perchloric acid and crystal violet. 

Molecular Weight: 318.13 

Procedure: Weigh accurately 250 mg of diclofenac sodium dissolved in 30 mL of glacial acetic acid, and titrated with 0.1N perchloric acid; the endpoint is determined by using crystal violet as an indicator. The endpoint is blue to green.

Factor Calculation: 

1 Mole of HClO₄ ≅ 1 Mole of diclofenac sodium 

1000 mL of 1M HClO₄ ≅ 318.13 g of C₁₄H₁₀Cl₂NNaO₂  

1 mL of 0.1N HClO4 ≅ 0.03181 g of C₁₄H₁₀Cl₂NNaO₂
